Why Affirmations don’t work

 

We have no problem acknowledging that having a positive mental attitude can sustain and motivate us to carry on in the face of pain and sorrow.  But,when we are in despair and feel that all hope is gone, where can we find the strength to tell ourselves a hundred times a day that all is well and we are at one with the world? From where to do we find the hope that the things we believe we want will magically appear from an unforgiving Universe?  After all, the Universe has already abandoned us, so why should we, a “worthless and undeserving nothing”, even bother to waste our time believing that we can ever have what we want?

 

The question which we always come back to asking is: Why would you repeatedly need to tell yourself that you are OK - unless you actually believe that you are not? 

 

What we know is that people with few negative beliefs do not need to ‘positive think’ or ‘manifest’ what they want.  Because they have good self esteem and positive beliefs about being worthy and deserving the things they have, they automatically attract and get what they need and want.  Very often we can feel envious of people whose lives seem to be so much “better” than our own. However, the only difference between us and them is ‘the amount of negative beliefs we both own to be true’.

 

Like us, the majority of our clients have over the years, read dozens of self-help books, including some of those mentioned above, and spent thousands of dollars attending recognized and expensive self-help courses, including Energy Frequency Tapping (EFT), Cybernetics, Hypnotherapy, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) Kinesiology, Avatar, Theta Healing and Landmark etc.  They have also worked with Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Therapists and Counselors, many of them are, and have been taking anti-depressants for long periods of time, and most of them have been left with the feeling that nothing had really changed for them, and to doubt that anything ever would.   Which begs the question:  Why would they still be seeking help if any of these therapies or processes had worked permanently?
